Reductive coupling of 1,3-dimethyluracils with benzophenone by low-valent titanium: unusual two-to-one coupling

The reductive coupling of 1,3-dimethyluracil with benzophenone by Zn-TiCl₄ in THF gave unusual two-to-one adduct and its further reduced product. The reductive coupling of 1,3-dimethyl-5-fluorouracil with benzophenone by Zn-TiCl₄ also gave two-to-one adduct. 1,3-Dimethylthymine was, however, completely inert under the same conditions.     

Synthesis of lipophilic bisanthracene fluorophores: versatile building blocks toward the synthesis of new light-harvesting dendrimers

Lipophilic bisanthracene-based fluorophore and its derivatives were synthesized by the Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reaction of 9-anthrylboronic acid with a substituted dibromobenzene. In addition to desirable fluorescent properties, these molecular systems were demonstrated to serve as versatile building blocks toward the synthesis of two types of new light-harvesting dendrimers due to their chemical stability.     

Information in small neuronal ensemble activity in the hippocampal CA1 during delayed non-matching to sample performance in rats

Background  

The matrix-like organization of the hippocampus, with its several inputs and outputs, has given rise to several theories related to hippocampal information processing. Single-cell electrophysiological studies and studies of lesions or genetically altered animals using recognition memory tasks such as delayed non-matching-to-sample (DNMS) tasks support the theories. However, a complete understanding of hippocampal function necessitates knowledge of the encoding of information by multiple neurons in a single trial. The role of neuronal ensembles in the hippocampal CA1 for a DNMS task was assessed quantitatively in this study using multi-neuronal recordings and an artificial neural network classifier as a decoder.
